Yo Gobba Gobba

Damn you, baking crazes that make us stray from our diets in the name of being culturally relevant! Word is the latest confection to enter the sweets fray is the gob, a western Pennsylvania favorite that San Francisco transplant Steve Gdula (who garnered a loyal following selling them from a food cart in SF) is now taking worldwide with his cookbook, Gobba Gobba Hey (available August 30). What is a gob? It’s a sandwich made with dense cake on the outside and creamy filling on the inside – a bit like a whoopie pie (although it’s not), but Gdula makes his in flavors like orange pistachio, elevating them to a kind of macarons status (even though it’s not that either). Guess we’ll just have to try one to know for sure…
